Most of the staff at work is used to my unusual sense of humor. I tend to greet everyone I see between the parking lot and my department. I am generally greeted by name. Most of the employees I see on a regular basis have worked in the same building for many years.
On Friday, there was a new security guard. I didn’t introduce myself since he was preoccupied by the dome security camera on the ceiling near the time clock. As I passed him, I said “you’re supposed to smile at the camera, you know.” He looked into the dome and gave a brief smile. Then he realized what he’d done and explained to me that he hadn’t noticed that camera before. I clocked in and moved on with my day. I could only imagine the reaction of the security guard who was watching the monitors back in the office. I smiled, but not for the camera.
